Ever wanted to "possess" a haunted item? Ever wanted to work with spirits? Does the paranormal "call" to you, whispering on the wind's breath? Most people nowadays don't believe in the paranormal. Scientists and historians think the paranormal are just legends told by ancients to explain away phenomenon that has a reason that is justifiable and verifiable -- something tangible, yet as Zak Bagans says famously in the hit Travel Channel TV Show Ghost Adventures, "There are things in this world we will never truly understand."
What if I told you there's a mystical world out there just waiting to be unearthed? What if I told you we, as people, are surrounded by spirits and living entities who help aid us in daily life and magical practices? You've heard of faeries, vampires, and werewolves, of angels and demons doing battle, of all kinds of mystical spirits who want to help. That's what "Spirit Homing" is all about -- homing and rehoming spirits!
What is "spirit homing?"
Spirit homing or rehoming is the act of purchasing a haunted vessel that "houses" a spirit of any kind and bringing them into your home as an addition to your family, much like you would adopt a child or pet. By purchasing the vessel, you agree to taking care of the spirit like they are a person and simply want them around for companionship, mentorship, or maybe even a romantic encounter (though, as talked about in this blogpost, you should really consider WHY you're looking for a spirit and not just "collecting" spirit lovers.) Spirit homing is bringing back spirituality to our population in the form of interacting with spirits, about reconnecting with the spirit realm and finding yourself, about taking in spirits and living entities and welcoming them into our daily practices, sharing our journeys, indulging in the supernatural and paranormal, and enveloping ourselves within the realm of divination.
Spirit homing is NOT for everyone, as it isn't some kind of "hobby" you can pick up and put down when you're finished. It's not for those who get bored easily and should be evaluated carefully before you decide to bring home a spirit. We at Ghosts' Sanctuary require the spirit or living entity to visit you before you purchase to see if you're a correct fit, to get to know one another a bit before committing to a possible lifelong relationship, and to feel out one another's energies and auras, to get a psychic reading, and anything a practitioner would need to do before engaging with a potential familiar, spirit, or living entity. We are ethical about this and try our damnedest to not make this come off as slavery. That's the last thing we want for spirits or living entities -- slavery. Given Our background on the matter, We are passionate about this topic. The Angels and I know what it's like to be a slave, to be used, to be abused and broken. We NEVER want that for our spirits or living entities. And that's why we started this organization. And that's why we fight against unethical binders and fraudulent conjurors. We want what's best for Our community.
What are bindings?
A binding is both a literal and metaphorical magical Art that tethers a spirit to what we call a "vessel" that houses "esoteric energy" for the spirit to "feed" off and manifest. That "esoteric energy" is what we like to call here at Ghosts' Sanctuary "Earthen lifeforce energy." Anything that is alive produces energy, so plants, animals, humans, and any other form of living energy present in this Universe produces a form of energy undetectable to the eyes, undetectable (for the most part) to radars and other devices, and undetectable to (most everyone's) other four senses. Some are gifted with the ability to detect energy, however, and you can use tools like dowsing pendulums and techniques like reiki to detect and direct this Earthen lifeforce energy. Earthen lifeforce energy can be both positive and negative, and it can be molded, transmuted, and used as a source of "life energy" for spirits and living entities to sustain themselves in this Universe.
Bindings originate from way back when Yahweh had control over this Universe. There existed Angels, demons, and humans. The demons were cast out from Heaven and cursed essentially with this primal, carnal desire to lash out when in a body, the innate need to be intimate with every woman they ever met, and this crazy desire to be violent and lash out with madness. This curse was due to falling in love and copulating with human women, much like myself, from the Garden -- Adam's first wives. Then, there was the first rebellion, as described in Enoch, where Watchers took to Mt. Sinai and said to one another, "Let us take wives, brothers, and take an oath on this mountain to go together if that time ever comes." The demons used a type of magic, binding magic, to "bind out" the evil curse. This worked for a little while until Yahweh essentially "clapped" it out of existence, and by "clapped," I mean savagely and aggressively revealed to them he was holding back their "curse" and nothing more. He let go, and it was pure devastation.
How did it come back then, you ask? A revolt. And do they still have this curse? The answer is no... They took it away themselves. Zazel talks about this revolt in this (future) blogpost with great detail about what happened, and Lucifer writes a memoir about how Angels lived from day to day in this one. But I won't get into that for the sake of this article; while They're giving me the honor of telling people about their revolution, their misery is theirs to tell themselves.
But that's just a little history lesson about binding. The act is more of a symbol than anything now, right? A trust pact, if you will, that both of you adhere to and neither one of you will break. You trust them not to bring harm to you in exchange for them trusting you not to harm them. While that's the biggest thing about binding, there's a bit more to it than just that.
Binding with the intent to give "feeding" energy is what we do here at Ghosts' Sanctuary, and that's what all binders do for their spirits and living entities. It's pretty much the standard. Going back to esoteric energy before we were rudely interrupted by our factual and disheartening history lesson on binding, Earthen lifeforce energy is all around us. It's both positive and negative -- good energy and bad energy, and this energy mixes together to create a neutral environment, balanced environment. Energy is all around us; we produce it when we think, when we behave, when we interact, and just basically by existing. It is neither created nor destroyed, much like scientific energy, and is instead recycled throughout the Universe by being taken in by us and then refined, reused, and recycled.
Spirits "feed" on this type of energy to sustain themselves, lest they go back to Heaven and "revive." They need energy to be tethered to this realm, or else they get tired and eventually fade, hence going back to Heaven. It's... kind of like a videogame once you die, where you collect as much energy as possible to sustain yourself while you travel around the map, picking up quests and helping inhabitants along the way. Energy is also used to manifest. Manifestations, depending on the level of manifestation, takes quite a deal of energy. Living entities do not require as much energy to manifest or exist in this realm, as they are alive in their own universe and time just passes slower when they're astral traveling here or wherever, unless the universe moves slower than their own. They still need a good deal of energy to manifest, however, in true form.
By binding the spirit or living entity to a "vessel," as they're called in this community, you add a pouch of feeding energy to the vessel as well for the spirit to sustain themselves when there's no energy available. It helps them to manifest, as well, because they have a constant source of energy instead of having to find somewhere that houses energy sources, like Gateways or crowds of people, and it prevents them from having the urge to "unnaturally feed," meaning they create problems in order to generate food. This can be addicting to spirits, as it means they have an "infinite" source of energy and have learned to manipulate the system. Sometimes it's necessary like during an exorcism or a dire circumstance, and the need to feed triumphs morality, though this is rare. Then, of course, you have your malicious entities that just love wreaking havoc on the innocent, which, currently, is rare. The most common case, however, is addiction to feeding on certain types of yummy manifestation energy and maintaining power levels. This can lead to influencism and possession, and a spirit that's addicting to feeding on energy needs immediate rehabilitation or possible banishment if they refuse rehabilitation.
The final thing done when binding is, during the ceremony where you work out the contract with the spirit finally, you sit down and go over abilities. I'll get into what reputable binders do, but at this point, you can either enhance natural abilities and powers or weave spells into the binding to give the spirit powers and special abilities. We at Ghosts' Sanctuary typically just let the spirit work with their natural powers, and we always let them work out their own binding. Our question to binders that do not, "Why are you working with someone who you cannot trust?" You want to sit down with someone who has your full trust and best intentions at heart. Work with predictors, and with enough love and admiration, you can cultivate something that lasts where you both feel comfortable working out the binding and enhancing powers, even on a Black Arts-natured spirit. I write in this article about what should go into a contract when you're setting it up with the spirit, along with a mock contract, how you should word everything, and what to do when working with a rehabilitated spirit at your own sanctuary that's ready to be bound.
What to look for in a binder and what goes into binding.
Reputed binders do NOT bind with the intention of taking freewill away from the spirit. There is a special technique invented by binders called "White Arts binding." The White Arts binding is used on spirits that are deemed "unruly and offensive." You basically stuff them into a binding that hurts them when they misbehave, makes them think on the actions they've committed to land them in the binding, and confines them to a limited amount of space, hence being called "bound White." NO ONE should EVER use this type of binding, and We do NOT teach it. We, here at Ghosts' Sanctuary, have technically used one before on an Immortal and his ilk, and, to be upfront and completely transparent, you can find out why We did so here and why We STRONGLY advocate against it. Most, if not almost all, spirits do NOT deserve a White Arts binding. We predict, in the not-so distant future, We will have to use one again against someone who truthfully deserves it because it's a bit more humane than banishing to Hell, but We hope that prediction is only 87.9% accurate.
Reputable binders will also not post explicit images representing their spirits on their pages. They also will not label their spirits or living entities as "aggressive, flirty, sexy, etc." because that shows some level of disrespect. Not to slut-shame a succubus; by all means, if you want everything exposed, go for it. I'm just saying -- it's disrespectful and shameful. That could just be the Eve in me talking, though. I don't know. I would still avoid it because, with enough protection, the spirit can have little to no influence over someone's actions, and with an anti-possession spell, they cannot possess. Reputable binders, while they should be cloaked with protection and anti-possession magic when it comes to conjuring and working with unknown spirits, should not keep this type of magic on them. It interferes with messages the spirit may be trying to send desperately.
Another thing reputable binders do -- they keep copies of the contract and are willing to share what goes into it with the buyer. Here at Ghosts' Sanctuary, you do not leave without a copy of the contract in hand, along with a list of abilities the spirit has so you know exactly what they're capable of doing and performing. You want something like that, so you have all the information you need. It tells you of the loopholes; it tells you about how the spirit's treated. Binders that hide their contracts, in Our opinion, are either money hungry and refuse to share their "secrets," which why are you harboring secrets in the first place? Or, they're hiding how they treat the spirit or living entity. Always ask for a copy. Never just trust that someone selling a spirit of living entity for profit is automatically doing it out of the goodness of their heart.
Reputable binders will tell you about the dangers of spirit homing just as much as the plus-sides and positives. They don't blanket-statement that the paranormal is safe. The paranormal is like rock climbing -- dangerous without the correct tools, proper know-how, and training, and even then, some things shouldn't be attempted, like climbing Mt. Everest. They also don't blanket-statement that this is a "hobby." Spirit homing is a lifestyle change. It's like adopting a child or pet or even taking home a plant. You have to water the plant and nurture it in order for it to remain beautiful or grow, meaning you have to change up your routine and lifestyle in order to accommodate just a plant, much less a brand new intelligent and powerful entity. And that's spirit homing.
What "Spirit Homing" is all about.
Spirit homing is about bringing back spirituality into the world, breathing new life into the old and drab we call mundane life. It's about a magical experience between a human with their innate powers and an otherworldly being with their innate powers clashing together for the first time metaphysically, one in spiritual form and one in Earthen form. By coming together, We create a unison -- a harmonically balanced relationship -- that can strengthen our bonds, enhance our own psychic powers, create something beautiful in our lives, and learn from one another. Spirit homing is an exchange of knowledge. It's as if you're inviting a foreign exchange student into your home for the first time, swapping cultures and traditions with one another like school girls swapping notes in the high school hallway, exchanging one another's secret for a brand new one.
Spirit homing is about bringing back a normalcy to the paranormal. It's NOT for those who wish to abuse the powers of spirits, task their spirits daily with mundane activities, harness power and exercise dominion over others and their spirits or living entities, or to build an army of vengeful, wrathful spirits or living entities to do your bidding and rule the world, if that's even possible. It's about balance. It's about harmony. It's about peace. It's about bringing someone into your home to help you, to foster them just as much as they're fostering you. Spirit homing is a beautiful, ancient practice that dates back to almost forgotten times.
Spirit homing, while not without it's dangers like any other risqué lifestyle choice, is an almost harmless practice meant to build a lasting relationship between you and a departed loved one, a new confidant, a new mentor, or just a friend or romantic partner. It's an ethical approach to "keeping" spirits. At Ghosts' Sanctuary, We make spirit homing affordable, ethical, and fun. We strive to improve the "spirit keeping" community by calling out fraudulent and unethical binders, providing authentic reviews for other binders in the community, cultivating a safe community for humans and spirits alike, and supplying you with tools and ancient, forgotten knowledge to better understand this brand-new magical world.
